Chris Pine to play Dungeons & Dragons with Game Night directors

December 15, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Chris Pine, an actor not afraid of genre work like Star Trek and Wonder Woman, is looking to tackle another nerd fandom. It’s reported that Pine will star in an upcoming Dungeons & Dragons film adaptation.

The adaptation has been long in development, with Paramount and eOne moving forward with the project at pace in the last year. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the duo behind 2018’s Game Night, will helm the project. Goldstein and Daley also penned the Dungeons & Dragons script based on a previous draft by Michael Gilio.

Dungeons & Dragons is a long-running, extremely popular game that features epic quests, overseen by a host known as the Dungeon Master. You’ll see huge wars, treasure hunts, long campaigns that can last for months, all set in a world that combines humans, mages, orcs, and hundreds of other creatures. The game famously uses multisided dice in gameplay.

Hasbro currently owns the rights to the game, and we last saw a big screen adaptation by New Line in 2000. That film starred Jeremy Irons, Marlon Wayans and Thora Birch, and was a critical and commercial failure.

Let’s hope Chris Pine has some D20s ready to roll…
