Peaky Blinders actor Cillian Murphy is heading home to Ireland for his next project, by producing and starring in the feature adaptation of Claire Keegan’s acclaimed novel Small Things Like These.
Deadline reports that Small Things Like These has been greenlighted by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity production company, which will finance the project and that principal photography is already underway in Ireland.
A multiple book of the year nominee, including the 2022 Booker Prize and the Rathbones Folio Prize, Small Things Like These is set in a small Irish town in the lead-up to Christmas in 1985, and focuses on Bill Furlong (Cillian Murphy), a coal and timber merchant, who while performing his rounds discovers the startling secrets being kept by the convent in his town, and some shocking truths about his own life as well. Ciarán Hinds (The English) and Emily Watson (God’s Creatures) are also set to star.
Next up for Murphy is Christopher Nolan’s eagerly-anticipated Oppenheimer, while this is the latest Claire Keegan novel to receive the big-screen treatment following The Quiet Girl (read our ★ ★ ★ ★ review here), which was nominated for Best International Feature Film at this year’s Academy Awards.
