Cinemax orders Bruce Lee-inspired Warrior pilot

August 31, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Cinemax is teaming up with Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin for Warrior, a pilot for a new crime drama based around original material written by martial arts icon Bruce Lee.

Warrior is set in San Francisco’s Chinatown in the aftermath of the Civil War and “tells the story of a young martial arts prodigy, newly arrived from China, who finds himself caught up in the bloody Chinatown Tong wars.”

Lee’s handwritten notes for Warrior were discovered by his daughter Shannon Lee in the years following his death in 1973. Shannon took the material to Lin’s Perfect Storm Entertainment to develop the show, which Lin is executive producing with an eye on directing. The script has been written by Jonathan Tropper, co-creator of Banshee.
