Colin Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg planning two Jurassic World sequels

November 9, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Given Jurassic World’s runaway success at the box office this summer, where it earned $1.67 billion to become the third-biggest movie of all time, it came as little surprise when Universal announced a sequel for 2018. And, it will also come as little surprise that the studio has plans for another sequel to complete the Jurassic World trilogy.

“Colin Trevorrow is busy working on an outline [for Jurassic World 2],” Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley tells THR. “He’s been working with Steven Spielberg. And they have an idea for the next two movies actually. It was designed as a trilogy, unbeknown to us. It’s a happy surprise.”

Having signed on to helm Star Wars: Episode IX, Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow won’t be back to helm the next instalment, with a recent report suggesting that Universal had courted J.A. Bayona (The Impossible) for the job, only for him to face scheduling conflicts with World War Z 2.
