Comic Book Review – Sinestro #1

April 17, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Robb Ghag reviews Sinestro #1…

“Thaal Sinestro has lost everything he’s ever loved: his home, his family, his only friend. But no matter how desperate he becomes, Sinestro will never be without fear…a lesson his one-time ally, one-time enemy Lyssa Drak is eager to teach him! Can he take back the despicable Yellow Lantern Corps? Or does the universe have a new destiny in mind for Sinestro?”

After a self-imposed exile Sinestro returns in his own regular series. Cullen Bunn brings back one of the greatest Green Lanterns, attempting to pick up where the legacy of Geoff Johns left off.

When we last saw him, he had failed to save his home planet of Korugar but successfully destroyed the first lantern, Volthoom. Now visited by one of his first recruits Lyssa Drak, he is once again thrust into his role as the leader of the Sinestro corp.

Dale Eaglesham draws an excellent landscape, and sets the scene very well, as we delve into where Sinestro has been all this time. The story is written well in the issue, and complimented well by his artwork.

The scene is set well for Sinestro to take back his corp. in this first issue, and many villains are re-introduced in this issue, including Arkillo and a character who may leave Thaal Sinestro at his weakest, although that’s when he’s at his most dangerous.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Cullen Bunn progresses this storyline, but he’s got some big shoes to fill in the Green Lantern universe.
