Courteney Cox confirms her return for Scream 6 as 2023 release date set

March 19, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Courteney Cox and Ghostface are a pairing we can get enough of these days. After her scene-stealing appearance in this year’s Scream, Cox will once again put on the journalist pants of Gale Weathers and look to solve a mystery one more time.

“I got the script yesterday,” Cox told the Just for Variety podcast. “I haven’t read it yet, I just got it […] I’m excited to read it, and I know they’re gonna start filming I think in June, in Canada. I don’t know if I’m supposed to say anything.

The star even went on to joke that she’ll tell the hosts of Just for Variety who the Scream 6 killer is, saying “Let me tell you the killer!” I’m sure the creative team Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett wouldn’t like a leak like that very much.

While Courteney Cox is signed on for another entry, there’s no word on as to whether Neve Campbell will make an appearance. Both Cox and Campbell had very limited screen time in the last entry, so many aren’t expecting much from the pair in the sixth installment.

Meanwhile, in one other piece of Scream-related news, it’s been revealed that Paramount and Spyglass have set a March 31st 2023 release date for the next instalment, which is bringing back the same creative team including directors Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett (a.k.a. Radio Silence) and screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.

The cast of Scream includes the returning Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, David Arquette as Dewey Riley, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and Marley Shelton as Deputy Judy Hicks alongside franchise newcomers Jenna Ortega (You, Jane the Virgin), Melissa Barrera (In the Heights), Jack Quaid (The Boys), Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why), Mason Gooding (Love, Victor), Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood), Kyle Gallner (Ghosts of War), Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers), and newcomer Sonia Ammar.

Scream is currently streaming on Paramount+.
