Daft Punk tapped to score new Dario Argento giallo Black Glasses

April 27, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Italian filmmaker Dario Argento is working on his first film since 2012’s Dracula 3D, and this is his return to the crime thriller genre he helped shape.

The new Giallo film titled Occhiali Neri or Black Glasses will star his daughter and frequent collaborator Asia Argento and feature French music duo Daft Punk as its composers.

Translated by The Film Stage, Argento spoke with the Italian website Repubblica about working with the electronic duo on an upcoming project. “They are my admirers; they know all my cinema,” Argento said. “They heard from French friends that I was shooting a new film and called me [to say], ‘We want to work with you.'”

The Suspiria and Deep Red filmmaker brought up that Daft Punk’s first tracks for the film will be sent in soon, and he’s hoping to begin filming Black Glasses sometime later this year. This film will mark Daft Punk’s first film score since 2010’s Tron: Legacy.

Argento also spoke about the film’s plot and gave a little insight into what to expect. “It will be my return to crime films,” he told Repubblica as he teased the plot. He went on to add, “It’s the adventure, in the nocturnal Rome, of a Chinese girl and child.”
