David Corenswet set to star in sports film Mr. Irrelevant

October 18, 2024 by EJ Moreno

David Corenswet hasn’t made his debut as Superman yet, but the actor already has his follow-up planned.

Deadline reports that Corenswet is negotiating to star in the Skydance Sports pic Mr. Irrelevant. We’ve learned that Jonathan Levine will direct, and Emmy-nominated writer Nick Santora will pen the script.

The film will focus on John Tuggle, who was given the title after being the last pick of the last round of the 1983 NFL draft. Per Deadline, the film tells the “inspiring and heartfelt true story of Tuggle, drafted by the New York Giants, and his enduring impact on his team and teammates.”

The title of “Mr. Irrelevant” began in 1976 with the drafting of USC receiver Paul Salata, which launched a series of events that have come to be known as Irrelevant Week. Brock Purdy has taken up the mantle recently, taking over starting duties for the San Francisco 49ers and leading them to the Super Bowl after the 2023 season.

Mr. Irrelevant will be produced by Skydance Sports. Levine will produce with Gillian Bohrer for Megamix, and Santora will produce through his Blackjack Films banner.
