David Harbour wants a Stranger Things season 3 team-up between Hopper and Steve

December 27, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Stranger Things star David Harbour wants a team-up in season 3 between his character Hopper and Steve.

Harbour has recently been nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance as the local police chief, Hopper, in season two of the hit Netflix show. Now Harbour has been speaking to Variety about what he wants from the third season.

One request of Harbour’s is that his character gets to team-up with Joe Keery’s Steve, as well as spend time with Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin, and to explore more of Harbour’s backstory.

“…I do think the internet knows my love for Joe Keery. I would love to see a Hopper and Steve get-together, but I seriously doubt that’s going to happen. I’d love to work with Gaten. I want to get into the backstory of Hopper more. When Eleven goes into the basement, she sees a bunch of boxes, one of which says ‘Hawkins Lab.’ ‘Dad.’ ‘Vietnam.’ ‘New York.’ There’s a lot of story we can get into around Hopper’s time as a cop in New York, Hopper’s time in Vietnam.

“Sara dies theoretically five years before our story. In terms of the timeline, we say in the first season that I moved back to Hawkins after that experience. And we have me calling my ex-wife, who is remarried and has a kid. There’s a lot of rich material there, and with secrets around Sara and that whole event, which I hope we’ll get into in future seasons. Maybe not in the way you think. But there is a lot more complexity to Hopper’s relationship to Sara’s death.”

Unfortunately, there is no official release date yet for Stranger Things season 3, so fans will have to be patient in seeing if any of Harbour’s desires materialise.

It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.

The second season of Stranger Things is available now on Netflix and sees the return of cast members Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer and Joe Keery, along with new additions Sean Astin (The Goonies), Paul Reiser (Aliens), Linnea Berthelsen (The Desert), Sadie Sink (Odyssey), Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers) and Brett Gelman (Brett Gelman’s Dinner in America).
