David Leitch in talk to direct new Jurassic World movie

February 6, 2024 by EJ Moreno

From John Wick to Deadpool, David Leitch has enthusiastically started or entered multiple massive franchises. Now, it seems like the filmmaker is about to take on his most enormous task yet.

Deadline reports Leitch is set to helm the newly announced Jurassic World film, described as a standalone film and a “completely fresh take on a Jurassic era.” While the deal has not been locked, the outlet notes that Leitch is in early talks to direct the next film.

As previously reported, the franchise’s original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp will return for the project. This still-untitled Jurassic film will be executive-produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Entertainment. Koepp is fresh off penning the new Steven Soderbergh-directed ghost film Presence, which Deadline notes is “100% currently on Rotten Tomatoes and up for sale here at Sundance.”

David Leitch is awaiting the release of The Fall Guy, coming out this May. The filmmaker is best known for Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Bullet Train. He also co-created John Wick with Chad Stahelski.

At the time of writing, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are not expected to return, nor are the original trilogy stars Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill. The Leitch-helmed project is looking to take the franchise in an entirely new spin and perspective but with the addition of the classic touches from Koepp and Spielberg.

The new Jurassic World film is set to bow on July 2nd, 2025.
