David Tennant will be returning as the Tenth Doctor in a new series of audio adventures coming from Big Finish Productions. Starting in August 2027 and releasing bimonthly, these new adventures kick off with Doctor Who – The Tenth Doctor and Rani, starring Anjli Mohindra, a name that may be familiar for her role as Rani Chandra in the Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures.

In the Doctor Who – The Tenth Doctor and Rani trilogy, Rani Chandra is following in the footsteps of her friend and mentor, Sarah Jane Smith, and starting her own journalism career. However, following in Sarah Jane’s footsteps goes a little too far when she encounters the Doctor and steps aboard the TARDIS.
Throughout the three full-cast episodes, the Doctor and Rani will investigate cryptids in Cumbria, uncover chaos in the court of Elizabeth I, and even get involved in the goings-on of a 1970s sci-fi TV show.
The three episodes are:
- The Hidden by Roy Gill, due for release in August 2027.
- Empress of the Universe by Lizzie Hopley, due for release in October 2027.
- In Effects by John Dorney, due for release in December 2027.

Anjli Mohindra said: “It’s always such a delight to go back into playing Rani – she was one of the first proper parts I played, so there’s a real sense of familiarity. It does feel like an inevitability that her and the Doctor’s paths would cross. Sarah Jane was such a special person to both of them, the love they have for her is really similar, and that’s a real shared thing that gives them a shortcut.”
