DC’s Doom Patrol and Titans ending with fourth seasons

January 26, 2023 by Ricky Church

Two DC television series are coming to an end. Doom Patrol and Titans are set to conclude their four-season runs when they return with the second half of their now final seasons.

The cancellation was said to be expected by the creative teams on both series with the massive changes due to Warner Bros. Discovery’s merger which has seen several series cancelled if not outright pulled from HBO Max or whole movies scrapped despite their completion as was infamously the case with Batgirl and Scoob! A Holiday Haunt. That’s without mentioning the restructuring of DC Studios with James Gunn and Peter Safran now shepherding DC films for the next decade, which has already seen Henry Cavill abruptly leave the role of Superman less than two months after announcing his return to the role with his Black Adam cameo.

With this in mind, producer Greg Berlanti, Titans showrunner Greg Walker and Doom Patrol showrunner Jeremy Carver crafted the fourth season of their respective shows to end with a firm conclusion for fans. Titans follows Dick Grayson, the former Robin now turned Nightwing, as he leads his own group of heroes to combat evil while Doom Patrol focuses on a group of eccentric heroes with strange powers and abilities.

“While these will be the final seasons of Titans and Doom Patrol, we are very proud of these series and excited for fans to see their climactic endings,” said HBO Max. “We are grateful to Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television for making such thrilling, action-packed, heartfelt series. We thank Titans showrunner Greg Walker, executive producers Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Richard Hatem, and the team at Weed Road Pictures. For Doom Patrol, we celebrate showrunner Jeremy Carver and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Chris Dingess and Tamara Becher-Wilkinson. For four seasons, fans have fallen in love with the Titans and Doom Patrol, investing in their trials and tribulations, and in their legendary battles saving the world time and time again.”

“I’m immensely proud of our gifted cast, crew and writing staff and their efforts in bringing to life all 49 episodes over the last five-plus years,” Titans showrunner Greg Walker said. “I couldn’t have asked for better partners in Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television, and HBO Max, and from the beginning, Geoff Johns and Akiva Goldsman. I’m incredibly grateful for their unyielding trust throughout this process. Lastly, I have to thank our incredible fans for their continued support, engagement, and the passionate community they’ve built around our show. We have six episodes left to unleash upon the world that we hope will give our beloved characters the creative closure we all know they deserve.”

“To our wonderfully supportive partners at HBO Max, Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and DC Studios, thank you for indulging us these past four seasons,” Doom Patrol showrunner Jeremy Carver said. “Also, what were you smoking? To our brilliant cast, indomitable crew, fearless writing staff and, most of all, to our beautiful fans: thank you all the more. You made this a once-in-a-lifetime ride.”

Both shows began on DC’s streaming service DC Universe before migrating to HBO Max. Their end comes after The CW’s Stargirl ended with its third season last month while the final season of The Flash will premiere February 9th. The only DC series left on television are Superman & Lois for its third season and Gotham Knights for its first season in March while James Gunn’s Peacemaker was renewed for a second season last year, though no word on a production start has yet been announced.

Premiere dates for Seasons 4B of Doom Patrol and Titans are yet to be announced.
