Video Review – Deep Water struggles to be erotic or thrilling

March 22, 2022 by EJ Moreno

EJ Moreno with a video review of 2022’s Deep Water…

Adrian Lyne returning to the world of erotic thrillers should be a joyous moment. From 9 1/2 Weeks to Unfaithful, the filmmaker knows how to shock and awe, but maybe the break between films has lessened his scandalous abilities. Deep Water is too tame, too safe, and too slow to be a true shocker. Thankfully though the talent involved still carries the film to a watchable experience. In his review, EJ Moreno breaks down what’s good and what doesn’t work in this new Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas film.

Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas star as Vic and Melinda Van Allen, an affluent New Orleans couple whose marriage is crumbling under the weight of resentment, jealousy, and mistrust. As their mutual provocations and mind games escalate, things quickly turn into a deadly game of cat and mouse as Melinda’s extramarital dalliances start going missing.

Featuring alongside Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas in the cast of Deep Water are Tracy Letts, Rachel Blanchard, Dash Mihok, Lil Rel Howery, Jacob Elordi, Finn Wittrock, and Kristen Connolly.

Deep Water premieres on Hulu in the US and Prime Video in the UK on March 18th.
