Disney open to the possibility of a Mandalorian movie

November 17, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

The big screen future of the Star Wars franchise is very much up in the air post-Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, what with Game of Thrones’ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss exiting their planned project, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi helmer Rian Johnson’s own trilogy seemingly not quite a sure thing at this point in time.

Disney and Lucasfilm’s current focus is instead on Disney+, with The Mandalorian premiering this week and new live-action series featuring Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor and Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi also in the works. And, based upon the early reactions to The Mandalorian, the plan appears to be working with the Jon Favreau-created series receiving much praise from both fans and critics alike.

Speaking at a Disney+ press event, Walt Disney Studios’ chief creative officer and co-chairman Alan Horn discussed The Mandalorian, and suggested that the Mouse House would potentially be open to a feature film outing for Pedro Pascal’s bounty hunter.

“The Mandalorian is already proving to be a big thing, so if that series proves to be so compelling that we reverse engineer it into a theatrical release, a two-hour film or whatever, okay,” said Horn (via Collider).

While a Mandalorian movie probably doesn’t sit too high on Disney and Lucasfilm’s list of potential projects, we will at least be getting a second season of the show, with Jon Favreau announcing this week that cameras are now officially rolling on the Mando’s ongoing adventures.

What are you making of The Mandalorian so far? Would you be interested in seeing a feature version, or should Lucasfilm focus elsewhere for the next Star Wars movie? Let us know in the comments or on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
