Hugo Strange rumoured to have a major role in Suicide Squad as The Joker’s psychiatrist

March 15, 2015 by admin

Another Suicide Squad rumour to add the list of ones we’ve had over the last couple of weeks. We’ve heard that Onslaught and Antiphon will be the main villains and that Deathstroke will be their muscle for hire. Well, here’s the new one.

According to the ‘ever-reliable’ El Mayimbe from Latino-Review, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad will feature Batman villain Dr. Hugo Strange as a psychiatrist at the prison that is holding The Joker. The rumour is that Strange will play a major role in the movie and will have several scenes with Harley Quinn and The Joker. Should this be the case, it may give us some clues as to the sort of stories we’ll get when it comes to Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie.

Dr. Hugo Strange first appeared in Detective Comics #36 in 1940 as a genius scientist, but was changed to more of a Dr. Frankenstein-esque character when he re-appeared in 1970 following an apparent death. In the 90s series Prey, Strange was re-imagined again as a brilliant psychiatrist who becomes obsessed with the Caped Crusader and even makes his own makeshift Batman costume.

Once again, this is just a rumour. And with no casting rumours surrounding this role, it’s probably best to take this one with a pinch of salt. For now.

Suicide Squad is set for release on August 5th 2016, and features a cast that includes Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop) as Rick Flagg, Will Smith (Hancock) as Deadshot, Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys) as Captain Boomerang, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) as The Joker and Viola Davis (How to get Away with Murder) as Amanda Waller. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jesse Eisenberg is also expected to reprise the role of Lex Luthor and Jay Hernandez (Hostel) has joined the cast in an unknown role.
