Deathstroke to play a major role in Suicide Squad; Joe Manganiello in line for role; costume details revealed

March 13, 2015 by admin

It was rumoured a couple of days ago that Onslaught and Antiphon would be the main villains of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, but some new rumours have surfaced that they will have some backup.

Latino-Review are claiming that Joe Manganiello (True Blood) is in line to take on the role of Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke and will play a major role in the movie. This should come as no surprise as Deathstroke has been rumoured to be a part of Suicide Squad for some time now with Jason Clarke (Terminator: Genisys) reportedly being offered the role (but turning it down for scheduling reasons) and Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop) also auditioning before he was given the role of Rick Flagg.

The site is also reporting that Deathstroke will act as a ‘gun for hire’ for the bad guys, and will use his blades and guns to take down the entire squad. In terms of costume, Latino-Review claim that he will have both eyes intact and will sport a modern version of his combat uniform and signature mask.

Nothing confirmed yet, but with rumours of David Ayer doing some last minute script re-writes, is he planning on making Deathstroke a bigger part of Suicide Squad than originally intended? With filming beginning in the next couple of weeks, we should hear some casting news to confirm the rumours.

Suicide Squad is set for release on August 5th 2016, and features a cast that includes Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop) as Rick Flagg, Will Smith (Hancock) as Deadshot, Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys) as Captain Boomerang, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) as The Joker and Viola Davis (How to get Away with Murder) as Amanda Waller. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jesse Eisenberg is also expected to reprise the role of Lex Luthor and Jay Hernandez (Hostel) has joined the cast in an unknown role.
