Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep returning for The Devil Wears Prada sequel

July 9, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Disney are working on the blue prints for a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, with Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep set to reprise their roles from the 2006 comedy blockbuster.

According to Puck News, The Devil Wears Prada 2 will see Miranda’s (Meryl Streep) career going into decline, which forces her to go face to face with Emily (Emily Blunt), who is now a major exec at a luxury group, whose advertising dollars Miranda desperately needs.

The original film’s screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) is in talks to return to write the next chapter, as is the 2006 film’s director, David Frankel (Marley & Me).

Based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel, The Devil Wears Prada told the story of Andy (Anne Hathaway), a recent college graduate with big dreams, who lands a job at the prestigious Runway magazine, where she finds herself the assistant to diabolical editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). The film also starred Stanley Tucci, Simon Baker, and Adrian Grenier.

Released by 20th Century Fox, The Devil Wears Prada went on to gross over $326 million at the worldwide box-office, earning Meryl Streep a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy, as well as an Academy Award nomination.
