Evangeline Lilly said she “held off” from joining Marvel’s Ant-Man after Edgar Wright’s departure

November 22, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Evangeline Lilly is set to reprise the role of Tauriel next month for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, after which she’ll be joining another blockbuster franchise as she makes her Marvel Cinematic Debut as Hope Van Dyne in July’s Ant-Man. Speaking to InnerSpace (via CBM), Lily has revealed that she held off on committing to the film following the departure of Edgar Wright, but was ultimately swayed by replacement director Peyton Reed’s take on the project…

“I was [bummed out] when Edgar and Marvel decided to part ways. I was nervous, and I kind of held off from signing my contract because I actually wanted to wait and see what would happen. I met Peyton [Reed] and we spoke, and I was convinced that I was going to do the project. He has such impeccable taste, he’s so collaborative, so much fun, and so deep into the comic book world. [He] always has been [in that world], all his life, and really knows the genre. I just have no doubt the film is going to be incredible. I think it’s going to be one of Marvel’s best.”

Ant-Man is set for release on July 17th , 2015, with Peyton Reed (The Break-Up) directing a cast that includes Paul Rudd (I Love You Man) as Scott Lang, Michael Douglas (Behind The Candelabra) as Dr. Hank Pym, Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll (House of Cards) as Darren Cross / Yellowjacket, John Slattery (Iron Man 2) as Howard Stark, Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger) as Peggy Carter and Bobby Cannavale (The Long Play), Michael Peña (American Hustle), Abby Ryder Fortson (Togetherness), Judy Greer (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight), Wood Harris (The Wire), Gregg Turkington (The Comedy) and T.I. (American Gangster) in as yet-unrevealed roles.
