Evangeline Lilly says Ant-Man and the Wasp is “a cross between Moonlighting and Batman and Robin”

June 19, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

With Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp less than three weeks away (unless you’re in the UK, where it’s almost eight!), Evangline Lilly has been chatting to the Toronto Sun about the sequel, describing it as “a cross between Moonlighting and Batman and Robin.”

Fortunately, she’s referring to the Dynamic Duo themselves, rather than Joel Schumacher’s 1997 travesty Batman & Robin!

“Initially, people were so excited that it was the first female titled character in a Marvel movie,” said Lilly, who reprises her Ant-Man role as Hope Van Dyne. “I was honoured to do that, but I also felt like maybe it should have been Scarlett Johansson because she’s earned it. But the thing I’m really the most excited about now is that it’s a duo. I just think that there’s a cross between Moonlighting and Batman and Robin. Everyone liked watching Batman and Robin fighting together because that dynamic is more interesting than one person fighting alone. But add to that the chemistry that Hope and Scott have and also the rub that they have because their personalities don’t match. That duo is really dynamic it’s really exciting for me to be a part of it.

The former Lost star also went on to discuss the arc that Hope will go through in the sequel, stating:

“At the beginning of this film, she’s been embodying not only this happier, more at peace version of Hope, but she’s been wearing the mantle of the Wasp, which was her dream for two years. So she’s so much more self realized, so much more content and she has this beautiful relationship with her father and they’re hellbent on this mission together and that partnership is so loving and so opposite to where she started in the first film. The arc in this film is really about Hope accepting that she can’t do everything on her own and she might be better with a partner. She realizes her controlling nature isn’t always going to serve her well and learning how to trust Scott and learning how to lean on another person is something she has to come to terms with.”

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes Ant-Man and The Wasp, a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a super hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.

Ant-Man and The Wasp sees Peyton Reed returning to the director’s chair and stars Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne), Michael Douglas (Hank Pym), Michael Pena (Luis), David Dastmalchian (Kurt), Abby Ryder Fortson (Cassie Lang), Judy Greer (Maggie), Bobby Cannavale (Paxton) and T.I. (Dave), while new additions to the cast include Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster/Goliath, Hannah John-Kamen as The Ghost, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch and Randall Park as Jimmy Woo.
