Famke Janssen believes she’s done playing Jean Grey in the X-Men franchise

July 4, 2017 by Gary Collinson

As 20th Century Fox gears up to retell the Dark Phoenix Saga with its First Class cast in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Famke Janssen has been talking about her time as Jean Grey in the X-Men series during an appearance at Denver Comic Con, during which she admitted that she believes she’s made her last appearance in the franchise.

“I think we’re done, but it was really great while it lasted and it lasted for a long time,” states Janssen, who made her first appearance as Jean in the original X-Men in 2000. “It’s been nothing but a pleasure working not just as Jean Grey, which was such an honor because comics were so fantastic already, but then the entire cast who I got to play with, all my fellow actors, thespians who are so talented. It was just a wonderful experience. I’m very grateful.”

Although she believes her time as Jean may be over, Janssen did go on to admit that she would jump at the opportunity to return if needed: “Jean Grey is a part of me. I would definitely come back to play her whenever they ask me.”

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set for release on November 2nd, 2018 and sees Simon Kinberg directing a cast that includes franchise veterans Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) alongside Jessica Chastain as Lilandra and Lamar Johnson in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
