Filming begins on Ana de Armas-headlined Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde

September 21, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Netflix has announced via Deadline that production is officially underway on Blonde, the Marilyn Monroe biopic from director Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) and starring Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049) as the Hollywood icon.

Based on Joyce Carol Oates bestselling book of the same name, Blonde is described as “boldly reimagined private story of the world’s most famous sex symbol”, presenting “a fictional portrait of the model, actress, and singer during the ’50s and ’60s, told through the modern lens of celebrity culture.”

Along with de Armas – who has recently wrapped filming on the Bond film No Time To Die – Blonde features a cast that also includes Adrien Brody (Peaky Blinders), Bobby Cannavale (Ant-Man and the Wasp), Julianne Nicholson (I, Tonya), Garret Dillahunt (Fear the Walking Dead), Scoot McNairy (Killing Them Softly), Lucy DeVito (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Michael Masini (Birds of Prey), Spencer Garrett (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood), Chris Lemmon (Duet), Rebecca Wisocky (Star Trek: Picard), Ned Bellamy (Django Unchained), Dan Butler (The Mist), Xavier Samuel (Adore), Toby Huss (Halt and Catch Fire), Caspar Phillipson (Jackie), and Sara Paxton (The Front Runner).

Blonde is slated to premiere on Netflix in 2020.
