Finn Wittrock is Guy Gardner in HBO Max’s Green Lantern series

April 30, 2021 by EJ Moreno

From American Horror Story to the universe of DC Comics, Finn Wittrock is entering another wild world as The Hollywood Reporter notes that the Ratched and American Horror Story actor will play a vital role in the upcoming Green Lantern series for HBO Max. Wittrock will play Guy Gardner, one of the many Lanterns that will appear in the upcoming series.

For many readers, Gardner is known for his bold personality, almost coming off as a parody of macho militant American men. As per his official description, HBO Max’s version of the character won’t be too far off. THR describes the character as “a hulking mass of masculinity, and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism. And yet, Guy is somehow likable.”

The official synopsis for the Green Lantern series reads as follows: “Green Lantern reinvents the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.”

There’s no casting news for Bree Jarta or Alan Scott at the time of writing, but reports say Scott’s casting is right around the corner.

Greg Berlanti, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Marc Guggenheim all serve as writers on the series. Berlanti will executive producer, while Grahame-Smith will serve as Green Lantern’s showrunner.
