First image from Dan Gilroy’s Velvet Buzzsaw featuring Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo

November 29, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Having announced the film as part of its Premieres line-up for the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, the Sundance Institute has unveiled a first-look image from Velvet Buzzsaw, the new film from director Dan Gilroy, which reunites him with his Nightcrawler stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo.

Details on Velvet Buzzsaw are scarce, but the film is described as a thriller taking place in the contemporary Los Angeles art scene, “where big money artists and mega-collectors pay a high price when art collides with commerce.”

Featuring in the cast alongside Gyllenhaal and Russo are Toni Collette (Hereditary), John Malkovich (Mile 22), Daveed Diggs (Blindspotting), Zawe Ashton (Nocturnal Animals), Tom Sturridge (Mary Shelley), Billy Magnussen (Game Night) and Natalia Dyer (Stranger Things).
