First look at Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich in The Iron Claw, AEW’s MJF joins cast

November 9, 2022 by Gary Collinson

After several rounds of paparazzi photos featuring a bulked-up Zac Efron made their way across the internet, A24 has now released an official first look image of the actor as pro wrestler Kevin Von Erich in director Sean Durkin’s (Martha Marcy May Marlene) upcoming drama The Iron Claw.

The film tells the true and tragic story of the legendary Von Erich wrestling family, with Efron as Kevin Von Erich, the only surviving son of patriarch, wrestler and World Class Championship Wrestling promoter Fritz Von Erich.

Along with the first look image, Deadline has also revealed that All Elite Wrestling star Maxwell Jacob Friedman has joined the cast of the currently-in-production film. His role is yet to be officially revealed but there’s reports that he will be portraying wrestler Kevin Vaughan, who performed as he Von Erich brothers’ ‘cousin’ Lance Von Erich in the mid-80s.

Alongside Zac Efron, the cast of The Iron Claw includes Harrison Dickinson as David Von Erich, Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich, Stanley Simons as Mike Von Erich, Holt McCallany as Fritz Von Erich, Maura Tierney as Doris Adkisson, and Lily James in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
