The First Purge gets a teaser poster and synopsis

January 30, 2018 by Ricky Church

The Purge franchise is coming back this summer by taking fans back to the very beginning. The First Purge, previously titled The Purge: The Island, is coming July 4th and Universal and Blumhouse have released the first teaser poster for the film that overtly touches on the current political climate in the U.S. Check it out below, along with the synopsis…

Gerard McMurray is taking the directing reins from series creator James DeMonaco. DeMonaco, who directed and wrote the previous three films, has written the screenplay for The First Purge. McMurray previously said the film will take place on Staten Island and detail how The Purge grew from one social experiment to an annual national event.

Behind every tradition lies a revolution. Next Independence Day, witness the rise of our country’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge. To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.

The First Purge stars Y’Lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, Luna Lauren Velez and Marisa Tomei.
It will be released on July 4th, 2018.
