Contradicting some earlier reports that described the Spider-Man: Homecoming interpretation of Flash Thompson (this time played by Tony Revolori of The Grand Budapest Hotel fame), Tom Holland says that this time around the character is not a bully as traditionally depicted, but rather a rival to Peter Parker.
On A Fan’s Guide to Spider-Man: Homecoming [which you can watch in full here], Tom Holland briefly spoke about how this Spider-Man movie is different from the others and touched upon on the above subject, stating that: “One of the main differences from the previous movies is that we don’t really have a bully. His main rival is Flash. They have this really funny back-and-forth.”
Revolori also added that: “I feel like I’m actually becoming more and more like my character. I’m always like the guy you’re like ‘Flash, right?’ and now in real life you’re like ‘Tony, right?’”
