Fox still developing new 24, but no plans for more X-Files

May 19, 2018 by Gary Collinson

During Fox’s upfronts this week, the network has confirmed that 24 creators Joel Surnow and Bob Cochran and executive producer Howard Gordon remain in development on a new iteration of the real-time drama series, but there are no plans for a third season of The X-Files revival.

Late last year, it was rumoured that 24 was being reinvented as a legal thriller, with the show following a female prosecutor who uncovers a legal conspiracy during the countdown to the execution of a death row inmate who she helped to convict.

Fox’s chairman Dana Walden would not comment if this plot was accurate, but stated that “we are very excited about where the show would go.”

As for The X-Files, chairman Gary Newman stated that: “Not only is there no plan, there hasn’t been a single conversation. It’s been a great show for the network but there are no plans to do another season at the moment.”

The X-Files news may not come as too much of a surprise, given that Gillian Anderson stated in January that the latest season would be her last, although creator Chris Carter has indicated that the show could potentially continue without Scully.
