Variety is reporting that Freddie Prinze Jr. (She’s All That, Scooby-Doo) has joined the cast of the Nancy Drew TV pilot in the works at The CW.
The as-yet-untitled pilot is being written by The O.C.’s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage with Noga Landau (The Magicians), and will follow the teen detective as she graduates high school but is forced to put her college ambitions on hold for a year after a family tragedy. This leads to a ghostly murder investigation, where Nancy uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined.
Prinze Jr. will play Carson Drew, Nancy’s father, who is described as “a dynamic attorney who has become estranged from Nancy following the recent death of his beloved wife – but his attempts to reconnect with his daughter run aground when Nancy’s murder investigation reveals unsettling secrets from Carson’s own past.”
The pilot is being produced by Fake Empire, the company behind the likes of The O.C., Gossip Girl and Chuck.
