G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes pushed back seven months

June 10, 2019 by Gary Collinson

In news that isn’t at all surprising given that it doesn’t appear to be anywhere near to production at present, The Wrap is reporting that Paramount Pictures has decided to push back the release of its G.I. Joe spinoff film Snake Eyes.

Originally slated to open on March 27th 2020, the prequel film based around the fan-favourite Joe is now set to hit cinemas some seven months later on October 16th.

Robert Schwentke (RED, R.I.P.D.) is set to direct Snake Eyes from a script by Evan Spiliotopolous (Beauty and the Beast), and while details are scarce we do know that it will explore the origins of the silent ninja commando.

Being an origin film, we’re going to be seeing a pre-mask Snake Eyes, and as such producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura has previously confirmed that Ray Park won’t be reprising his role from G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and its sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Snake Eyes will be the third G.I. Joe movie to hit the big screen, and Paramount has also been developing a third team film, which – if rumours are to be believed – would pit the returning Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock), Rachel Nichols (Scarlet) and General Colton (Bruce Willis) against the  Crimson Twins, Tomax and Xamot.
