Game of Thrones’ Iwan Rheon to play Maximus the Mad in Marvel’s Inhumans

February 22, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Casting is underway on Marvel and ABC’s new series Inhumans, with Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon – who portrayed the despicable, unhinged Ramsay Snow / Bolton in the HBO fantasy – set to take on the role of Maximus the Mad, the younger brother of Black Bolt.

“Iwan’s ability to be charming, roguish and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. We’re thrilled to have him on board,” said Marvel’s Head of TV Jeph Loeb, with showrunner Scott Buck adding that: “Maximus is a complex character. Likable, charming, tragic and villainous all in the same moment, and I’m very excited to have someone of Iwan’s considerable talent.”

Maximus is described as “a clever and charming Inhuman that is fiercely devoted to the people of Attilan, especially his brother, the king — though he harbors an intense desire to wear the crown himself.”

Inhumans will explore the story of Black Bolt and the Royal Family, with the first two episodes set to premiere in IMAX theaters over Labor Day Weekend in September before shifting to ABC for the remainder of the series later that month.
