Games of Thrones movie Aegon’s Conquest will invade cinemas in 2029

September 30, 2026 by Ricky Church

The Game of Thrones franchise is ready to take the leap to the big screen with one of the most asked for stories from its fanbase. Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest will take flight and invade theaters on June 1st, 2029.

Aegon’s Conquest will tell the story of Aegon Targaryen, the first King of the Seven Kingdoms who invaded Westeros with his sisters Visenya and Rhaenys and their dragons Balerion, Vhagar and Meraxes. Together they united the realm and formed the Targaryen dynasty that would last for 300 years. House of the Dragon fans will recognize Vhagar as Aemond’s dragon, the oldest and largest dragon in Westeros at that time.

The events of the conquest have often been mentioned both in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books and expanded on in the Fire & Blood book detailing the Targaryen history and HBO’s Game of Thrones series. The prequel House of the Dragon revealed one of the reasons Aegon invaded Westeros was to prevent a new Long Night where the thought-to-be extinct White Walkers would once again attack Westeros and a Targaryen ruler was the key to destroying them.

Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest will be directed by A Knight of the Seven Kingdom‘s Owen Harris from a script by Beau Willmon (House of Cards).

Game of Thrones premiered on HBO in 2011 and quickly became one of the most popular and beloved series in modern television. It ended in 2019 and despite what many have called a lackluster final season the show has still remained quite popular. HBO has produced two spin-off prequels House of the Dragon, which recently ended its third season with its fourth and final reported to premiere in 2028, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms which premiered earlier this year with its second season said to premiere in early-mid 2027.

Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest will be released June 1st, 2029.
