Geoff Johns wants to see more of Aquaman’s Black Manta

January 2, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Former DC Entertainment head Geoff Johns wants to see more of Aquaman‘s Black Manta.

Geoff Johns may have stepped down from his position as an executive of DC Entertainment but that hasn’t stopped the producer and writer from commenting on the future of DC.

Johns was a big fan of Black Manta in Aquaman and has recollected his excitement about the character while working on Aquaman with director James Wan. Johns, who co-wrote Aquaman‘s story, spoke to Geeks of Color about how the film couldn’t have been done without Black Manta:

“It’s impossible. It’s like doing a Batman movie without the Batmobile. You just shouldn’t do it. Some people were like, you can’t do the big helmet. It’s like saying Joker without the smile!

“There was a moment when the script was really going and James texted me or emailed me, and said Black Manta’s story may be too big for this movie. What do you think? And I didn’t reply, I just went to his office and I said, ‘Black Manta has to be in the movie.’ He was like, ‘I know!!!’ There should be a Black Manta movie. That’d be a cool movie.”

Did you enjoy Black Manta in Aquaman as much as Johns did? Let us know if you would like to see more of the character in future movies.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman”, starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime — one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be … a king.”

Aquaman is directed by James Wan (The Conjuring) and stars Jason Momoa as the titular hero, reprising his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, along with Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Ludi Lin as Murk, Michael Beach as Jesse Kane, Djimon Hounsou as the Fisherman King, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, Otis Dhanji as a young Arthur Curry, Julie Andrews as Karathen and Graham McTavish as King Atlan.
