God’s Own Country, Lady Macbeth and The Death of Stalin were the big winners of the 2017 British Independent Film Awards tonight.
God’s Own Country won four BIFAs – Best British Independent Film, Best Actor (Josh O’Connor), Best Debut Screenwriter (Francis Lee) and the previously announced Best Sound award – while Lady Macbeth won Best Screenplay (Alice Birch), Best Actress (Florence Pugh) and Most Promising Newcomer (Naomie Ackie), adding to its Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design announced earlier in the month.
Other big winners included The Death of Stalin with four awards, I Am Not a Witch with three, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri with two. Here’s a full list of the winners, highlighted in red…
