Godzilla and the Titans MonsterVerse series to be directed by WandaVision’s Matt Shakman

May 20, 2022 by Ricky Church

Apple TV+ and Legendary’s untitled MonsterVerse series about Godzilla and the Titans has found its director. According to Variety, Matt Shakman (WandaVision) will direct and executive produce the upcoming series.

The series will explore the aftermath of “the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real” and “one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.”

The series spins out of Legendary’s MonsterVerse franchise began with 2014’s Godzilla and continued with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong. Shakman will direct the first two episodes of the series which has been co-created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction. Black will serve as showrunner while he and Fraction will also be executive producers alongside Safehouse Pictures Joby Harold and Tory Turnell and Takemasa Arita of Toho Co. Ltd., the owners of the Godzilla character.

There is also an anime Skull Island series in the works for Netflix while a sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong was announced earlier this year with Adam Wingard returning to the director’s chair alongside his The Guest actor Dan Stevens. Shakman meanwhile is also tapped to direct the next Star Trek film for Paramount and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot.
