Goldeneye and Casino Royale director Martin Campbell is open to returning for Bond 26

August 19, 2021 by Liam Waddington

With No Time to Die set to be Daniel Craig’s fifth and final portrayal of James Bond, the beloved action series will inevitably be rebooted once again by introducing a new version of the iconic British spy.

Now, in an interview with Collider, Martin Campbell, who has previously rebooted the franchise twice by directing Pierce Brosnan’s Goldeneye in 1995 and Craig’s Casino Royale in 2006, revealed that he would be open to returning for Bond 26.

“Oh yeah, I would certainly consider it. I enjoy doing Bond. And also, the two producers are great to work with. You’re pretty much given a free hand to – everybody obviously participates in the script, and Casino I had Paul Haggis who did a terrific job with the script. He did the final draft. But the two producers are great to work with, and they don’t interfere at all if they think you’re on the right track, and everything else they just let you get on with it. They support you all the way. It’s an enjoyable experience.”

Although No Time to Die will be the final instalment in this particular series, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson still haven’t announced their plans for the future of James Bond following Craig’s departure.

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

No Time To Die stars Daniel Craig (James Bond), Ralph Fiennes (M), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny), Rory Kinnear (Tanner), Léa Seydoux (Madeleine Swann), Ben Whishaw (Q), Jeffrey Wright (Felix Leiter) and Christoph Waltz (Blofeld), while new additions include Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049), Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel), Billy Magnussen (Velvet Buzzsaw), Dali Benssalah (A Faithful Man) and David Dencik (Top of the Lake).

No Time to Die hits UK cinemas on September 30th, and US theaters on October 8th.
