Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther and Spider-Man writers join the Hasbro Cinematic Universe for G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K. and more

April 21, 2016 by admin

When the Marvel Cinematic Universe hit the $1.5 billion mark with The Avengers in 2012, several studios announced plans for similar shared worlds. Warner Bros. and DC launched the DC Extended Universe this year with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Universal have begun their Classic Monsters Shared Universe with production of The Mummy, and Dan Aykroyd has said he wants to do a Ghostbusters Shared Universe as has Sylvester Stallone with The Expendables.

It had previously been reported that Paramount and Hasbro were coming together to launch a Hasbro Cinematic Universe that brings together toylines G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionaries, and M.A.S.K., and now they have a writer’s room.

The Hollywood Reporter are reporting that Akiva Goldsman, who oversaw the Transformers Cinematic Universe writer’s room, will work with several Marvel Cinematic Universe writers including Michael Chabon (Spider-Man 2), Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man), Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy), Cheo Coker (Luke Cage), John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Joe Robert Cole (Black Panther),  Jeff Pinker (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Lindsey Beer (Kingkiller Chronicle), Nicole Riegel (Dogfight), Geneva Robertson (Tomb Raider).

It had previously been rumoured that characters from M.A.S.K were going to show up in the G.I. Joe 3, but its unknown whether that connects to these new plans.

With Michael Bay’s Transformers 5 starting soon and the producers saying a G.I. Joe cross-over is out of the question, it’s unlikely The Transformers will be rebooted as part of this Cinematic Universe.

Paramount has previously released two movies based on G.I. Joe, and neither of which were well received. Channing Tatum even dismissed the first movie in a recent interview.
