Harry Potter fans celebrate ’19 Years Later’ at King’s Cross

September 1, 2017 by George Chrysostomou

September 1st 2017 marks the date in which the epilogue of J.K. Rowling’s final Harry Potter book is set.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows marked the endpoint of the series, featuring the titular young wizard and his adventures in Rowling’s now iconic Wizarding World. The final chapter of this novel saw Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and even Draco, wave farewell to their kids, as they boarded the Hogwarts Express to begin their journey to the famous School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

This anniversary has not been ignored by fans of the novels and films alike, with hundreds flocking to London King’s Cross to celebrate this date in Harry Potter history. King’s Cross, the real life filming location of its book counterpart, home to platform 9 and 3/4, also features a Harry Potter shop and trolley cleverly connected to a wall, to allow fans to also enter the Wizarding World.

Some fans had travelled to this famous film location from the other side of the world just to be a part of celebrations for the anniversary. Amongst the crowds gathered at this Harry Potter hotspot is none-other than Warwick Davis, best known for his work in Star Wars, Willow and of course Harry Potter, playing both the goblin Griphook and the charms professor, Filius Flitwick.

The attention to the franchise will continue to live on for years as the Fantastic Beasts franchise has multiple films set for release in the future. But, will the attention given to this anniversary prompt producers to start development on a sequel to Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2, or will The Cursed  Child become adapted from stage to screen, to continue the story of Harry’s son, Albus and his struggle to fit into Hogwarts? With potential for the franchise to move in any direction and focus on any era in history and a fanbase which never seems to dwindle, the future will forever seem magical for the Potter franchise…
