Hawkeye’s original post-credits scene would have been a hoot

December 26, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Spoilers for the season finale of Hawkeye follow. You have been warned bro…

While Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye series was mostly well-received by fans, one aspect of the series finale that ruffled a few feathers on social media was the decision to feature a full-length rendition of ‘Save the City’ from Rogers: The Musical as its post-credits sequence, rather than taking the opportunity to tee up a future story thread.

Almost as soon as the finale aired, a rumour began circulating that Marvel had cut a post-credits scene which would have confirmed that Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk survived his encounter with Maya (Alaqua Cox), with the Kingpin receiving the Ronin sword from Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) as a warning to stay away from him and his family.

As yet, there’s been no confirmation on that, but it turns out that there was indeed a post-credits scene that had been shot for series, and it would have answered one of the finale’s lingering questions: what happened to those shrunken Tracksuit Mafia bros who were whisked away by the Rockefeller Center’s Christmas tree owl?!

The news was shared on social media by Elaina Scott, a senior animator at VFX house Digital Domain, who tweeted the following:

The post credits oh the finale of Hawkeye was meant to have the owl taking the bris to its nest, kinda sad they cut it. Would have been hilarious!!

Are you disappointed that Marvel chose to cut the post-credit scene? Or is it better to have left the bros’ fates “up in the air”? Let us know your thoughts on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.

Hawkeye sees Jeremy Renner returning as Clint Barton alongside Hailee Steinfeld (Bumblebee) as Kate Bishop, Florence Pugh (Black Widow) as Yelena Belova, Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring) as Eleanor Bishop, Fra Fee (Les Miserables) as Kazi, Tony Dalton (Better Call Saul) as Jack Duquesne, Zahn McClarnon (Fargo) as William Lopez, newcomer Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, and Jolt as Lucky the Pizza Dog.

Hawkeye is available to stream now on Disney+.
