Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader returns in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi image

March 10, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Yesterday we got our first look at Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi with the release of the official trailer for the Disney+ series, and while that ended with a tease for the return of Darth Vader we now have our first look at Hayden Christensen’s Dark Lord of the Sith thanks to a brand new image from Entertainment Weekly.

The image, shown above, sees Christensen back in the suit following his brief time under the helmet in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, with the Sith Lord pictured in the meditation chamber of his Mustafar stronghold Fortress Vader.

The last time we saw Vader in this location he was taking a soak in a bacta tank in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, suggesting we might possibly get to see the fallen Jedi unmasked in the series – although Christensen wasn’t giving anything away, telling EW that “I’m sworn to secrecy” but teasing that “we’re going to see a very powerful Vader”.

Are you excited for Vader’s return and his promised rematch with Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi? Let us know on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi is directed by Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian) and features a cast that includes Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars, Bonnie Piesse as Beru Lars, Rupert Friend as The Grand Inquisitor, Moses Ingram as Reva, the Third Sister, and Sung Kang as the Fifth Brother, along with Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell, Maya Erskine, and Benny Safdie.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on May 25th, the 45th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
