I Know What You Did Last Summer gets a requel with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. returning

February 6, 2023 by EJ Moreno

An iconic horror franchise return with a sequel to the original is commonplace now; we’ve seen Halloween, Scream, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and even Leprechaun take this route.

Pop culture and horror fans have dubbed these requels a mix of sequels and remakes. We have a new one joining its slashing peers, and it’s the 90s underrated gem I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Deadline reports the slasher franchise will see a sequel following the events of the original film from Sony; Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr are reportedly in talks to reprise their roles. There’s no word if the events of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer will be canon.

In the report, Deadline says Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) is set to direct, with a script from writer Leah McKendrick. Original producer Neal H. Moritz is in talks to return as well.

Deadline also notes the studio feels the need not to reboot but do a ‘passing of the torch-type sequel’ with original cast members helping lead the new generation of stars, similar to that of Scream or Creed. Hewitt and Prinze were reportedly on board for the project once hearing the pitch from Robinson and McKendrick.

As yet, there’s no release date set for the film.
