Idris Elba in talks for sci-fi thriller Deeper

February 3, 2019 by Gary Collinson

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Luther star Idris Elba is in talks to lead the sci-fi thriller Deeper, which is set to be directed by Baltasar Kormakur (Everest, Adrift).

Described as similar in tone to Gravity and The Martin, Deeper will see Elba playing a disgraced astronaut who finds himself confronted by a sinister force during a deep-sea dive to explore a newly discovered trench.

The project, scriped by Max Landis (Chronicle) was picked up by MGM back in 2016, and was originally going to be directed by Kornel Mundruczo (White God) with Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) before being retooled by the studio.

Elba is currently shooting Working Title and Universal’s feature film adaptation of Cats, and is set to play the main villain in this summer’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.
