It’s the end of the world as we know it in Leave the World Behind final trailer

December 5, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Ahead of its streaming premiere this Friday, Netflix has released a final trailer for Sam Esmail’s adaptation of Rumann Alam’s novel, Leave the World Behind, which stars Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke as a couple whose holiday at a luxurious rental home happens to coincide with the end of the world as we know it.

The unsettling trailer depicts the creepy goings on that take place when a mysterious man (Mahershala Ali) shows up at the home claiming to be the owner, along with his daughter (Myha’la) who both seek refuge as the world around them collapses following a cyberattack across the whole country. Also starring Farrah Mackenzie (Utopia), Charlie Evans (Everything’s Gonna Be Ok) and Kevin Bacon (The Toxic Avenger), you can check out the video below…

In this apocalyptic thriller from award-winning writer and director Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot), Amanda (Academy Award winner Julia Roberts) and her husband Clay (Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke), rent a luxurious home for the weekend with their kids, Archie (Charlie Evans) and Rose (Farrah Mackenzie). Their vacation is soon upended when two strangers — G.H. (Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali) and his daughter Ruth (Myha’la) — arrive in the night, bearing news of a mysterious cyberattack and seeking refuge in the house they claim is theirs. The two families reckon with a looming disaster that grows more terrifying by the minute, forcing everyone to come to terms with their places in a collapsing world.

Currently playing in select cinemas, Leave the World Behind streams on Netflix from December 8th.
