J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot to produce Justice League Dark movie and TV projects

January 22, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Having recently signed a major deal with Warner Media, Deadline is reporting that J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot productions is turning its attention to the DC universe – or more specifically, the supernatural side of the DC universe – and is actively developing a number of film and television projects based around Justice League Dark.

The Justice League Dark team debuted in DC Comics back in 2011, and comprises of a number of occult and offbeat characters including the likes of John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing, Madame Xanadu, Shade the Changing Man and Etrigan the Demon.

WB has long had ambitions for a live-action adaptation of Justice League Dark, with Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy) spending a number of years developing a feature film entitled Heaven Sent, dating back to the pre-DCEU. It was subsequently retitled Dark Universe, with Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) attached to direct, before undergoing another name change at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con where it was announced as Justice League Dark.

As per Deadline’s report, plans are still in their infancy, with Bad Robot soon to be taking meetings with writers and talent reps about potential projects under the Justice League Dark umbrella, and it’s unclear at this point whether Abrams has any plans to direct any of the projects.
