J.J. Abrams’ discusses the First Order’s Starkiller Base from Star Wars: The Force Awakens

November 13, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Last month, we got our first look at the First Order’s new superweapon Starkiller Base with the release of the theatrical poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with the design of the planet-sized weapon evoking the Empire’s feared battle station the Death Star. And speaking to Entertainment Weekly, J.J. Abrams has pretty much confirmed the First Order’s command center as the Death Star III.

“It is very much — and it’s acknowledged as such in the movie — apparently another Death Star,” states Abrams. “But what it’s capable of, how it works, and what the threat is, is far greater than what the Death Star could have done. Starkiller Base is another step forward, technologically speaking, in terms of power.”

If you’re curious to what Starkiller Base is capable of, a Star Wars Databank entry from back in September revealed just how powerful it is – check it out here.
