Jake Gyllenhaal joins Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Frankenstein flick The Bride!

June 8, 2024 by Gary Collinson

As she continues her fledgling directing career with The Bride!, THR has revealed that Maggie Gyllenhaal has enlisted her brother Jake for a role in her upcoming Bride of Frankenstein-inspired feature film.

While details on Jake’s role are being kept under wraps, the film sees Gyllenhaal’s The Dark Knight co-star Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s Monster alongside Jessie Buckley (Men) as The Bride, while the cast also includes Annette Bening (Nyad), Penélope Cruz (Ferrari), Peter Sarsgaard (Memory) and Julianne Hough (Bigger).

Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal last appeared alongside each other on screen in 2001’s Donnie Darko, having previously featured together in 1993’s A Dangerous Woman and 1998’s Homegrown, both of which were directed by their father Stephen Gyllenhaal.

As per the official synopsis, The Bride! “sees a lonely Frankenstein travel to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.”

The Bride! is slated for release on October 3rd, 2025.
