James Dean is being recreated with CGI for Vietnam War drama Finding Jack

November 6, 2019 by Gary Collinson

James Dean is set to return to the big screen some 64 years after his untimely death, with Magic City Films announcing that it has “cast” a CGI recreation of the screen icon for the upcoming Vietnam War drama Finding Jack.

Finding Jack is being directed by Anton Ernst and Tati Golykh, who have secured the rights to use Dean’s likeness from his family, and have tapped VFX companies Imagine Engine and MOI Worldwide to create “a realistic version of James Dean” using actual footage and photos.

“We searched high and low for the perfect character to portray the role of Rogan, which has some extreme complex character arcs, and after months of research, we decided on James Dean,” said Ernst. “We feel very honored that his family supports us and will take every precaution to ensure that his legacy as one of the most epic film stars to date is kept firmly intact. The family views this as his fourth movie, a movie he never got to make. We do not intend to let his fans down.”

“This opens up a whole new opportunity for many of our clients who are no longer with us,” adds Mark Roesler of agency CMG Worldwide – no doubt sending shudders to film fans everywhere with his comments.

Finding Jack is set to begin shooting this month for release on Veterans Day 2020, and will tell the story of the military dogs (in excess of 10,000) who abandoned following the end of the Vietnam War. As you might expect with this news, the project is generating a lot of publicity – the vast majority extremely negative – but let us know what you think, either in the comments below or on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
