James Gunn updates Guardians of the Galaxy 2 progress, confirms Karen Gillan return as Nebula

April 2, 2015 by Gary Collinson

James Gunn is currently hard at work developing the sequel to last year’s blockbuster space opera Guardians of the Galaxy, and the director has provided a brief update on his progress during a fan Q&A on Twitter’s live-streaming video app Periscope.

“I turned in my treatment,” said Gunn, who is set to write and direct the 2017 release. “I’m going to meet about it on Friday and we will start working on the screenplay next week.”

Gunn went on to state that the script itself is “very, very far along”, having already completed about 70 pages of his first draft, as well as reaffirming that Ronan the Accuser is dead and won’t be returning for the sequel. However, Karen Gillan will be back as Nebula, with the actress set to join the returning Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket) and Vin Diesel (Groot).

Guardians of The Galaxy 2 is set for a UK release on April 28th 2017 and will open in the states on May 5th.
