Jamie Bell would like to see Andy Serkis directing a Tintin movie

November 6, 2017 by Gary Collinson

When a Tintin movie series was first officially announced by Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson back in 2007, the original plan was for Spielberg to direct the first – The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn – with Peter Jackson then helming a second movie after he completed work on The Hobbit.

The first film arrived in 2011, and received solid reviews, as well as grossing almost $375 million around the globe. However, while we’ve heard whispers here and there that the second movie would still be moving forward, development has seemingly ground to a halt over the past couple of years.

However, Jamie Bell – who portrayed the roving reporter – has revealed to Empire that he still hopes to reprise his role as Tintin, and would be keen to see Andy Serkies back as Captain Haddock, as well as taking on directing duties.

“Someone said at the [Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool] premiere last night, ‘Ooh maybe Andy Serkis could direct it’ and I was like, ‘Oh my god. That’s a great idea. A fucking great idea!’ I am totally down for that. I’d work, of course, with Peter again, or whoever wanted to make it. But working alongside Andy is always great because he’s just so talented, I’d love to do it.”

Serkis has recently been moving into directing, having helmed the Andrew Garfield / Claire Foy drama Breathe, as well as the Jungle Book adaptation Mowgli: Tales from the Jungle Book, which is currently in post-production ahead of a release next year. Given Serkis’ wealth of experience with performance capture, he’d likely be perfectly suited to a Tintin movie, should Jackson and Spielberg fail to fit another into their schedule.

Would you like to see Jamie Bell and Andy Serkis back for another Tintin adventure? Let us know in the comments below…
