Jason Momoa confirms popular Aquaman fan theory from Man of Steel

November 15, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Before the DC Extended Universe, there was simply Man of Steel. A film meant to revive the Superman franchise in the same way that Christopher Nolan breathed new life into Batman. Even early trailers felt a bit like ‘Christopher Nolan Presents Superman’. However, when the film failed to stand on its own critically, Warner Bros. swerved into full shared-universe mode. It seems that they were prepared too: remember the Wayne Enterprises tease towards the end of the film, way up in space?

There is another tease also. Well, maybe. See, a lot of fans have thought that Aquaman absolutely saves Superman’s life in Man of Steel, early on in the film. Up to this point, we have had never had any confirmation that this is the case, but Jason Momoa just confirmed it. Speaking to DC All Access, the Aquaman actor revealed that he learned this info from Zack Snyder himself:

“In Man of Steel, when Henry [Cavill] is saving the oil rig and he’s holding that up, and all of a sudden he kind of floats up on the ocean, he’s [Zack] like ‘I had Aquaman save him so that they did cross paths at one point.’ So then when Bruce goes ‘You ever heard of…Superman?’ I have met him and we have crossed paths.”

It’s tough to say if Snyder simply got wind of the fan-theory and decided to make it canon, or not. Still, it’s always cool to hear of easter-eggs still being revealed in four year old films.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, and Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf.
