Jeremy Renner lined up for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery

May 30, 2024 by Ricky Church

Director Rian Johnson is really getting his ensemble cast together for Wake Up Dead Man, the next instalment in the Benoit Blanc mystery series, with Deadline reporting Avengers and Mayor of Kingstown star Jeremy Renner is the latest to join the film.

There is no word on character details for Renner or his co-stars as Johnson, who wrote the script, is keeping the story close to the chest. Renner will feature alongside Daniel Craig reprising his role as Benoit Blanc and newcomers Josh O’Connor (Challengers), Cailee Spaeney (Civil War), Kerry Washington (Scandal), Andrew Scott (Ripley) and Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction).

Curiously, Renner was name-dropped in the previous film Glass Onion, where he is said to make and sell his own brand of hot sauce. His face is even seen on one of the bottles as it becomes an important piece of the climax.

Renner was the victim of a freak accident last year which found him pinned underneath his snowplow. After some intensive surgery and physical rehab, Renner has slowly been taking on roles again with the third season of Mayor of Kingstown set to premiere on Sunday. He also recently spoke about his desire to return to the Mission: Impossible franchise in which he played a significant role in two of the films as a member of Ethan Hunt’s team.

Johnson released an announcement teaser a few days ago which was narrated by Craig’s Blanc, stating it would be his most dangerous case yet so we can expect, as was the case with Knives Out and its sequel Glass Onion, more twists and turns from its star studded cast.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery heads into production next month in the UK and will be released some time in 2025.
